Obviously I am not going in order with our cruise stops. Don't know why...just felt like mixing it up I guess. Anywho, our first stop was in Italy, in a port town called Ancona. This was pretty cool, there was a pretty heavy Roman occupation here (obviously...it is Italy after all). We saw some neat sights while there
Entering the town wall. I loved walking around this city.
The remnants of the colosseum that was here during Roman times.
This was a cool church. Hannah liked the lions.
It was originally a roman temple, converted to a paleochristian church, now catholic.
You can see remnants of the original building through glass panels around the interior of the building.
It is called Cathedral di San Ciriaco.
The Arch of Trajan, 115 b.c.
Being a port town, Ancona needed a victory arch.
I told the girls to imagine they were Roman Soldiers returning victorious from their battle and given the honor of marching through the Arch in victory.
It is amazing shape for being over 2000 years old.
Matt, the boys and I wanted to walk through the arch victorious too.
A view of the cathedral di San Ciriaco that we walked up to earlier.
You can see the old Roman wall that used to circle around the city.
I really liked this stop, the history was amazing, and the leather shops were even more amazing!
We found some excellent buys!
