We decided we had to get a quick trip in to the Black Forest, cuckoo clock land, and it was so much fun. We drove through the whole area from Baden-Baden down to Freiberg and through Furtwagen. But our favorite stop was Triberg. This is Cuckoo clock heaven, this little town. There are also some great hikes to do in the area, so it was the place we spent most of our time.
Look at all those fun clocks!
The kids spent hours in here, going from clock to clock and seeing what they all do when the hour is struck.
I think one of the funnest parts of the day was our hike up the water fall. This is supposedly the biggest waterfall in Germany. The kids thought it was small, I guess after Yosemite anything would seem small.
However big or small it was, it was still beautiful and fun to spend the afternoon out in the woods.
Ernest Hemingway was here in Triberg at the falls at one point in his life.
The roof tops all look like cuckoo clocks.
Another thing we thought was a must do, was trying the regions popular confection, Black Forest Cake. Traditionally, this cake is soaked in Schnopps. We searched and searched for an alcohol free version and finally found one in this cafe.
We got a slice to go, that along with our favorite gelato, made a very nice afternoon treat.
It was beautiful driving through the Black Forest country. What a great way to spend a weekend!
