New Years in Belgium

We are not used to NOT traveling over Christmas.  It has been part of our yearly lives for the last 7 years to go "home" for Christmas...even before that when we were in school we always flew back for the Holidays.  So, we had some dear friends invite us to their home for New Years.  So the J crew packed up and went to Belgium for New Years.  It was just over the 4-day weekend, but still a nice break to end our Holiday's with.
While visiting our friends, they took us to Brugge to see the Disney Ice sculpture exhibit.  Then we walked around the city and bought some delicious Belgium chocolate!

The Cheshire Cat has always been my favorite Disney Character

Walking along in Brugge.
The architecture is so unique here, with those stair step roofs
 Basilica of the Holy Blood
supposedly the Church Treasury has a vile of Christ's blood, taken after his crucifixion.  We didn't see it, because the treasury was closed by the time we got here, but it is a cool old church.
 Old doors :)

Downtown Brugge in the city center

The next day after church we went for a quick look around Mons
Here is the main church that is known as where Saint Waltrude settled and was buried.
Mon's city center, or Markt Platz if we were in Germany

Medieval stairs for Horses.  I think it is so cool to walk around these old, historic towns and see remnants of years gone by and times past.

Rub the monkey's head for luck!
We have seen several bronze artifacts in different cities that are rubbed for good omen's.  You know if it is really popular if the bronze is polished like this poor monkey's head.
He looks so worried...

We had a great time Belgium, and look forward to going again in warmer months to spend some time on the beach!
